Premiere: Satellite Citi covers ‘Blue Orchid’

By Lindsey Anderson

A killer cover can stick in a listener’s ears for ages. From The Bangles cover of ‘Hazy Shade of Winter’ to Mitski’s cover of ‘How Deep Is Your Love’, covers showcase an artist’s distinct sound and creativity while paying homage to their favorite songs. Los Angeles-based rock duo Satellite Citi have done just that with their cover of “Blue Orchid” by The White Stripes.

Satellite Citi is made of lead vocalist & drummer, Anna Gevorkian and guitarist, Shaunt Sulahian. Here’s a quote from the band on their connection to The White Stripes and why they decided to cover this particular White Stripes song:

“Blue Orchid” is a song by The White Stripes. We both grew up listening to their music. Anna’s first rock show, at the age of 12, was The White Stripes at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. We thought it would be a fun song to bring back by keeping the original feel/tone of the song and adding our own style/flare to it at the same time. Our visual interpretation of the song in our music video is symbolic of society taking advantage of something pure (a white orchid) and destroying it (turning it blue).
