Tom Tom Magazine: When and why did you start playing music?

Sunny Dee: I started playing drums at the age of 16 yrs old. Even tho my first instrument was the piano, the drums always did something to me. The beats of songs always stood out to me and I was always beating on something.  Whether it be on my mom’s furniture,  the dashboard in the car, my desk at school,  or whatever was around at the time.

What was your first kit?

My first kit was a Mapex

What do you do to get ready for a show?

If im not going over the actual music, I normally listen to gospel music. It always gets me excited and ready to play.

Has it been difficult to get booked for shows as a female drummer in such a male-dominated field?

Not at all. I think I get booked off my talent, but it’s a plus that I am a female.

What, if anything, inspires you to keep playing?

My son inspires me to keep playing along with my love and passion for music.

What kind of drummer do you inspire to be?

I aspire to be the ultimate female drummer who is not stuck in one genre of music however I’m very passionate towards being a rock drummer.
