This is inventive hand percussion at its best. The video below was a big hit on youtube and has been mentioned in countless blogs and those responsible are Irish dancers Suzanne Cleary and Peter Harding and Johnny Reed, better known as Up and Over It!. I’m assuming their unwavering expression relates to the disposition associated with traditional step dancing in which dancers maintain an unaffected gaze, faintly smiling, and definitely no grimacing. Their hand motions are definitely reminiscent of the leg movements within Irish dance, as well as the beat and rhythm they create.
These two are taking tradition to a really cool place and we really love it.
