Drumline Sequel Features Female in the Lead Role

Remember Drumline? The 2002 film starring Nick Cannon brought the trials and triumphs of a marching band to the big screens. Twelve years later, a sequel is in the works! And we’re pleased to tell Tom Tom readers the lead character is a female drummer portrayed by Alexandra Shipp (She’s also starring as singer Aaliyah in an upcoming biopic. How rad is that?). The character is from Brooklyn and leaves to attend A&T, the university featured in the first film. Her goal is to lead the drumline, which would make her the first female to so in the history of the school’s drumline.
