Tom Tom Magazine and Danbro Studios Create Free Drum Space for Women
BROOKLYN, June 22, 2011 — Tom Tom Magazine: A Magazine About Female Drummers has partnered with Danbro Studios to create a free practice space available exclusively for women and girls from July 1st to August 31st. Ladies of all ages and musical persuasions are invited to take part in free drum and beatmaking lessons and jam sessions in the Bushwick studio space.
“I’m sure you know how hard it is to have drums in a New York apartment with super thin walls, so I practice on an electric Roland kit. Needless to say, it doesn’t sound or feel the same,” says Kimberly Guinta, a Tom Tom subscriber, “what I really need is just somewhere to practice on some real drums. It would also be good to meet some other girls who play.”
Through the partnership with Danbro Studios, Tom Tom Magazine offers one-on-one and group lessons taught by female drummers and beatmakers for beginning, intermediate and advanced drummers. Also offered is a practice space for bands with female drummers or beatmakers. For networking and skill share, female musicians of all disciplines are invited to jam sessions.
Join Tom Tom Magazine and Danbro Studios from July 1st to August 31st at 260 Meserole Street for free drum and beatmaking lessons, practice space, and a place to meet other lady musicians!
Tom Tom Magazine® is the only magazine in the world dedicated to female drummers. It serves as the ultimate go-to guide for the latest and hottest info on lady drummers and beatmakers. Tom Tom seeks to raise awareness about female percussionists from all over the world and hopes to inspire women and girls of all ages to drum, all while strengthening and building the community of otherwise fragmented female musicians. Tom Tom Magazine is more than just a magazine, we are also TV, clothing, games and gear tailor-made for the female drummer from beginner to professional.
Danbro Studios is a community of musicians, artists, and other creative professionals located at 260 Meserole Street on the border of Bushwick and Williamsburg. Housed in a former 19th century Brewery, there are over 60 sound-insulated, secure, 24-hour rehearsal spaces for rent. From Scorcese to 50 Cent, Animal Collective to No Age, National Geographic to Pitchfork TV, and for hundreds of independent artists, the 75,000 square feet of raw, industrial space at Danbro Studios have proven to be an unparalleled location for film and video. When completed, Danbro Studios will be the single largest community of its kind in New York City – a place to rehearse, record and perform for over a thousand musicians.

I’m interested in free lessons and space with drums to practice. Only time I get to practice on a drum kit is at my lesson with Paula Spiro who suggested your free event for the summer. Thank you. I can use space from 6p weeknights and any time on weekends except during my lesson time saturdays 12 to 12:30.
