From the legendary Led Zeppelin, John Bonham.
I like this solo because he doesn’t immediately start with insane speed or the really tough stuff. He slowly builds up to it. I think this solo is structured well, but we’ll get into solos later. For now, we’ll talk about the melodic drumming he uses.
While rhythmic drumming keeps the beat, melodic drumming adds to the melody. Melodic drumming is super fun to work on. If you want to play more melodically, play some simple songs like “Jingle Bells” or “Frosty the Snowman” on your set. I know it sounds silly, but give it a go. It’s harder than you think. Be sure to use your whole set, not just your toms. After playing stuff like that on your own, you’ll be able to add these concepts to your playing.

Interestingly he starts off quoting from the famous solo by Max Roach “The Drum Also Waltzes”.
