What’s Your Deal?: Putri Yamini Al-Haqni

Putri + timpani Woman Timpanist

About Me:

My name is Haqni and I have been studying drums since I was 10-years-old. I was born March 13, 1987 in Jakarta. I started off playing percussion in the junior high school band and have had countless appearances since. When I was 18-years-old I decided to continue my studies at the Institute of Art and chose to study percussion in the performing arts. I have been leaning on the marimba, xylophone, and timpani.

The first song I learned was Hanson’s “Mmbop” when I was 10-years-old. When I was 15-years-old, I formed a hardcore band and played music like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, and learned how to do double pedal for the first time.

Since I went to college to learn classical percussion, I started playing in an orchestra on timpani, marimba, or cymbal. I learned also from bookes to gain skill such as Rock, Jazz & Funk Drumming bu Jim Latta, Crosstraining: A Method for Applying Rhythms and Techniques to Drumset, Hand Percussion, and mallet Instrument by Rob lewis, The Everything Rock Drums Book by Eric Starr, The Ultimate Play-a-long by Rick Gratton, and Advanced Funk Studies by Rick Latham. I never got to meet these people in person but they are my teachers and and I thank them for the lessons they gave by book and CD.
